Sport EDEXCEL BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL EXTENDED CERTIFICATE Specific entry requirements At least 5 GCSE passes at grades 9-5 (minimum grade 5 in English and 5 in biology), at least a merit grade in BTEC Sport if taken at GCSE. Sporting ability - access to local club/sporting activities etc. Content of the course BTECNational Sport is a course based qualification that offers candidates A2 equivalent units. It offers a broad basis of study for the sports sector. BTEC National Extended Certificate (One A Level equivalent): This Level 3 qualification consists of four units, two are mandatory units plus two optional specialist units that you will study over two years. The units you will study are: • Anatomy & Physiology • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being • Professional Development in the Sports Industry • Application of Fitness Testing During the course you will have the opportunity to coach, lead, mentor, fitness test and train younger students and sports teams. You will also have the opportunity to visit universities, sports clubs, healthand fitness training centres and attend trips related to this course. Extended Certificate - One written exam (Unit 1 Anatomy & Physiology - 90 mins) and a case study (Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-Being)(externally assessed - 90mins). Youwill also produce coursework for a portfolio that will be assessed internally by your teachers. Is this course for you and where could it take you? It is perfectly suited to anyone wishing to follow a career path within the fitness industry, physiotherapy, teaching, armed forces, the police or coaching. It is a practical- based subject that will involve participating in fitness sessions, coaching, training and researching topics related to health and fitness. This course will also help you research and identify the many career choices in sport and help tailor your professional development towards a pathway in the wide ranging world of sport.
