Sociology AQA A LEVEL Specific entry requirements At least five GCSEs grades 9-5 including a 5 in English and a 4 in maths. Content of the course A Level The A Level course covers three modules. For the final year of the A Level students take the compulsory topic of Crime and Deviance and then choose one more topic from a choice of four. A Level students are expected to show more range and depth of knowledge together with more highly developed skills in analysis and evaluation. How is the course assessed? A Level 2 year course Paper 1 - CORE PAPER - Education with Theory and Methods in context Written exam 2 hours (1/3rd of A Level) Paper 2 - OPTIONS PAPER - Topics in Sociology (WLA will do Option 1 “Families and Household in Year 12 and Option 2 “Beliefs in Society” in Year 13) Written exam 2 hours 30 minutes (1/3rd of A Level) Paper 3 - Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods 1/3rd of A Level 2 hours Is this course for you and where could it take you? A Level Sociology is highly regarded by universities for courses in sociology, English, social and economic history, anthropology, politics, business studies, law and teaching and is a sought after qualification. Sociology is also useful in a number of careers like marketing, advertising, PR, journalism, law or teaching. The course develops high level of communication skills which are desirable in all walks of life but more importantly you’ll learn to research, evaluate and review sociological research and documents.
