The Academy

Judged 'Good' by Ofsted in February 2013, West Lakes Academy is committed to achieving high standards for all with a rich and diverse range of learning experiences that provide stretch and challenge, tailored to student needs and styles.

We are based in a brand new £27m building in beautiful West Cumbria, with easy access to Wasdale, Ennerdale and the Western lakes. The area offers an excellent quality of life, with superb leisure opportunities.

We are part of the Western Lakes Teaching Schools Alliance and are building strong links with other schools in the area.  We offer a comprehensive programme of CPD.

Cleaners - casual

part-time hours as required
Salary: £6.51 per hour plus 78p/h holiday pay

To join a staffing bank typically working approx. 2 hours per shift outside school hours to cover absence - must be available at short notice. You will undertake general cleaning tasks to specified standards to ensure a clean and hygienic academy environment.

Design and Technology Technician

Term-time only (40 weeks per year), 37 hours per week, permanent role.
Salary: Starting Salary £15,198 progressing to max £16,826 pa (£17,106 - £18,939 pa fte)

You will provide a wide range of technical assistance including the preparation and day-to-day maintenance of teaching areas, tools and machinery; preparing equipment for lessons and supporting students of all ages in and out of lessons with projects and course work. You must be able to work independently, using your own initiative and prioritising your workload. The workshops are well resourced with a good range of CNC equipment. An interest or experience in CAD/CAM, electronics, resistant materials, engineering and/ or product design is an advantage but is not essential.

GIRLS' PE TEACHER

Maternity Cover up to 12 months, to start 23 February 2015or asap thereafter, Corporate Healthcare package
Salary: MPS/UPS

We seek an enthusiastic, high-calibre PE teacher with the ability to successfully teach PE to at least GCSE level, and ideally post-16, who is able to enthuse students across the ability range. You must be qualified in a relevant subject. This post is an event-limited maternity cover and will cease on the return of the current postholder. You will join an enthusiastic, committed and driven team who have high expectations of our students. The department comprises of four full time teaching members of staff and a School Sports Co-ordinator. It is a strong and supportive department, always looking for opportunities to develop and share excellent practice in order to further the development of the Academy. ICT TEACHER

We seek an innovative and inspiring ICT teacher with a rack record of successfully teaching ICT to at least GCSE level, ideally to 'A' level and across the ability range. This post is an event-limited maternity cover and will cease on the return of the current post holder. Department Profile: • BTEC Level 3 (three sets per year) with ALPS grade 3 or better for the last 4 years and 100% pass rate at Yr11 Level 2 last year. BTEC ICT Level 1/2 is delivered from Year 9 upwards across the whole cohort. • A dedicated IT Department network for advanced software, hardware and networking investigations with a good supply of cameras, camcorders and other peripherals for creative development • Modern, high-efficiency stations with current versions of standard applications for one-on-one student access with full-size interactive whiteboards for enhanced delivery • A friendly, supportive department with excellent relationships between staff and students resulting in a highly successful department with a great working atmosphere Applications are welcome from experienced and recently qualified colleagues.

Multi-media Specialist Technician

Full time, full year, permanent position
Salary: Starting salary £25,619 pa, with incremental progression possible to £28,362 pa

We seek an experienced, appropriately qualified specialist to join the Network Support Team. You will provide skilled guidance, assistance and support to pupils and staff, contributing to the development of our new Vanilla Network, with opportunities to innovate in an exciting period of change You must have the experience and initiative to take a lead role in developing, implementing and supporting multi-media systems and allocated projects including our 1 to 1 tablet solution for students and staff. We have recently invested £2 million in our ICT infrastructure and equipment and offer unrivalled facilities. Essential requirements include: • Experience of working in a fast paced environment • Expertise and experience of Microsoft and Apple systems in an Enterprise Network Environment • NVQ 4 or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant discipline • Experience of working with web sites • Support and management of Audio Visual Systems
