When did you attend West Lakes Academy?

I first started West Lakes Academy 8 years ago, from 2007-2012.

What is your favourite memory of your time at West Lakes Academy?

My favourite memory has to be going to watch the school productions and annual music shows that the students would organise and put on themselves. It really gave me goose bumps seeing the talent our school had.
What have you achieved since leaving WLA and what are you currently working on?

After leaving WLA I went on to do a Level 2 & 3 Beauty Therapy course, however after working in that industry for two years I decided I was mostly interested in makeup and bravely made the decision to move to London to enrol on a Specialist Makeup HND course. I am currently in my last year and have recently worked on Marko Mitanovski’s collection at London Fashion Week as part of the hair and make-up team along with working on various make-up counters in Selfridges and Harrods.

How did your time at WLA prepare you for your chosen career?

I think WLA’s art department is phenomenal. Many schools don’t value art as a career and sometimes steer their students away from it. However the passion my teachers held rubbed off on me and made me realise that was the career I wanted.

What advice would you give to the students of WLA who want to pursue a similar career?
I would say research and practice as much as you can. Start building your portfolio as soon as possible, this really helps show future employers how far you have came and will also be nice for you to look back on to see your progression.
Any other words of wisdom for our students on how to make the most of their time at WLA?

Don’t wish time away, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t give up on subjects you’re not as interested in. They all interlink later on and you’ll kick yourself for not putting in 100%.
