On Friday the academy invited parents and carers to join their children in class to help raise parental engagement. Around 50 Year 7 students and their parents attended a special food technology lesson where they worked together to prepare and cook a tasty, healthy meal of fajitas and homemade nachos.
The aim of the session was to give parents the chance to work alongside their children in the school environment, build communication and help develop a positive relationship between the academy, its students and parents.
Mr Sunter said, “The parent and student Ready, Steady, Cook event that took place today was a spectacular success. The parents have loved being able to see what their child is doing at West Lakes Academy and are able to see the world class education they receive. This event is essential for really building that parent/teacher relationship we all strive for. Particular thanks must go to the teachers who gave up their free time to support students and an extra special thanks must go to Mrs Bell for organising and leading the sessions.”
