As an academy we continue to have a focus on students acquiring knowledge across the curriculum. We use the term ‘powerful knowledge’ to describe knowledge that our students are yet to be exposed to and each subject area has a clearly defined curriculum pathway to sequence the acquisition of this knowledge effectively. This information links to a correspondence you recently received from Mrs Deeks about helping our students to remember this knowledge. In this letter, Mrs Deeks discussed a logo we are using with students and staff to help them remember everything they are learning at the academy.
One of the ways to help students to acquire ‘powerful knowledge’ is through the use of knowledge organisers. Knowledge organisers set out important and useful knowledge for a particular subject area on a page. We have knowledge organisers across the curriculum at the academy and students use these in lessons and as part of homework tasks. Students have also been exposed to how to ‘self quiz’ using their knowledge organisers to further help develop their acquisition of subject specific knowledge. Please ask your child about this. We will be posting examples of how students can self-quiz on our website and I will update you when these will be available.
We now have a parent portal on the website so you can access these knowledge organisers and so you can test your child on knowledge they are learning about in school. Each half term we will update these. To access these, please go to the parent page of our website and the knowledge organiser section. Please click on your child’s year group.
Please use the appropriate password as detailed in your letter which has been emailed to you. If you have not received a letter please contact your child’s head of year.
