We are an enthusiastic and dynamic team. We offer a rotational system for Year 7 and 8 students to experience as many technology areas as feasible offering technological literacy for all. We currently offer GCSE courses in Product Design, BTEC Engineering and Food and Nutrition. In the Sixth Form students can follow A Level Product Design, A Level Textiles Design and Food Science and Nutrition
The department offers after school opportunities for all KS4 and 5 students to complete coursework and improve their performance in examinations. Additionally there are specific clubs including the KS3 Bake Off which is very popular and mimics the popular TV series.
Key Stage 3
Over Key Stage 3, students study a wide range of subjects consisting of Food and Nutrition, Resistant Materials, Textiles, Electronics and Product Design, undertaking design and make projects in every area. Students learn to be proficient at hand tool skills, design skills and use of the latest CAD/CAM equipment to help facilitate them in making their products. Students will also build their knowledge of materials, ingredients and components ready for Key Stage 4 courses.
Key Stage 4
The BTEC Technical Award in Engineering provides an engaging, broad-based introduction to engineering. It involves underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills, which reflect the needs of employers, higher and further education professionals. It presents knowledge, skills and understanding in a meaningful work-related context, to allow learners to understand theory and application. The award comprises of two core units that underpin the knowledge and skills that are valued in the engineering sector and a practical exam. The first unit focuses on essential knowledge of industry sectors and the second core unit focuses on applying essential understanding of materials, processes and life cycle to a given product. In the practical exam students will create a solution to a real life problem based on a given design brief.
You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.
