Sue Alderson is from Cumbria and has two children in WLA.
Sue has a Bachelor of Education (Hons) degree from the University of Northumbria. She started teaching in September 1993 at Dendron School, Barrow in Furness, having a class of 13 Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 children. Sue moved to Low Furness School, Urswick in September 1994 and taught Years 1 to 3 over a two year period. She started at Beckermet School in September 1996 teaching Foundation Stage/Year 1. She has had responsibility for English and PE across the school for the last 20 years.
Sue was appointed as a Lead Literacy Teacher for the county and spent time visiting schools to advise on their current practice and offer ways of moving forward. Staff from other schools visited her classroom to observe exemplar lessons. Sue is still Foundation Stage Lead in the school due to her vast experience in this area but now teaches Year 5/6.
Sue currently has responsibility for the PE Sports Premium funding and its deployment. This involves liaison with sports coaches, staff at WLA and other primary schools to enhance the sporting opportunities for the children. She has worked with Howard Todd through Active Cumbria on some case studies to highlight good uses of the funding in Beckermet school.
Sue is qualified as a student mentor and usually has a student on placement every year. She is also a mentor for NQTs/RQTs who are appointed to the school.
Sue has been Senior Teacher at Beckermet for the last 10 years and alongside the Head teacher, makes up the senior management team. She analyses data from FS, KS1 and KS2 and is involved in writing action plans to move the school forward.
In her spare time Sue plays badminton and tennis in competitive leagues.
