Ian is a communications professional, working in the nuclear sector. Prior to this, he worked for ten years in local government, for Copeland Borough Council in Whitehaven. He has experience of working at both a strategic and operational level in roles covering media relations, marketing, internal and external communications, stakeholder relations and consultation and engagement.
From 2007 to 2015 Ian was a governor at Thornhill Primary School, a feeder school to the Academy. The school was rated as good by Ofsted during his time as Chair of governors – a role he undertook for more than five years.
He is passionate about ensuring that all young people get the best life chances, and is keen to support inclusive education with strong community links, something which he believes West Lakes Academy excels in.
Ian has a degree in Social Policy from the University of York, and has post graduate qualifications in Business and Public Relations. Ian is a former pupil of West Lakes Academy’s predecessor school, Wyndham, which he attended from 1993 to 2000.
Outside of work, Ian is a cyclist, enjoys good food and drink, and loves live music, especially soul music.
