Dan studied Geography at university and went on to complete a PhD which focussed on numerical modelling and field investigations of river mechanics. Dan started his career in academia where he worked as a researcher investigating upland rivers in the UK and British Columbia, Canada. He then moved into the private sector where he analysed market dynamics and product sales for Unilever and Cadbury. In 2003 he moved north to begin work with Cumbria County Council where he managed the authority’s Information and Intelligence Team. Since 2012 Dan has worked as a Business Analyst at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority undertaking a range of financial, commercial and strategic modelling.
Outside work Dan enjoys fell walking, most sports, visiting new places and learning new things, particularly related to science. When he has time he likes watching live music and volunteers as a Duty Manager at the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth. He is married (to a secondary school teacher) and has 2 children.
