I am originally from west Cumbria and always intended on working in this area.

I studied Geography at Northumbria University from 2005 to 2008 and gained my PGCE in 2011 from The University of Cumbria. My first teaching post was at Whitehaven School in 2011 where I completed by my NQT year. I then moved to Southfield Technology College in Workington before starting at West Lakes Academy in 2014.

I am the subject mentor for Geography Teacher Training in the academy and have helped run subject training days for all trainee Geography teachers who are part of the Western Lakes Teaching School Alliance.

I am also the lead in the academy for raising boys’ achievements. In this role I monitor progress for boys across the academy and through different initiatives hope to improve their progress.

In the academy it is important to instil a moral compass in our students and I have led many charity events that encourage our students to think about others in our local community. These have included the Dent Dash sponsored walk and the annual Christmas present appeal for Age UK.

Outside of WLA I am chairman of a local community park, a member of Weddicar Parish Council and enjoy running, going to the cinema and walking in the fells.
