Parents, students, staff and governors joined together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of West Lakes Academy students over the past year.
Over 200 guests attended the prestigious event, which honours students for a range of achievements including; academic achievement, student leadership, overcoming adversity and involvement in extra curricular activities.
The event had a seaside theme and was held in a marquee in the academy grounds. Driftwood, seashells and bunting adorned the marquee and guests were treated to a delicious picnic and ice cream served by the student prefects who were dressed for the occasion in straw hats and colourful bow ties.
Egremont Town Brass Band played for guests upon arrival and the academy’s ukulele band and pianist Joe Alderson entertained guests in the marque. There was also a dance performance from students in the awards interval.
During the ceremony guests heard from guest speaker; former student and head girl Flo Hanlon, who has just successfully completed her apprenticeship in Project Management with Sellafield. Flo spoke to the students about making the most of the opportunities on offer at the academy and how to achieve your goals.
Rewards lead at the academy, Holly Donaldson commented, “Last night we had our annual awards evening where students, families and friends, staff and special guests all joined together in celebrating the students achievements. As we were “at the seaside” we had a special performance from Egremont’s town band, our Year 7 students playing the ukulele to welcome the guests and we had a fabulous performance from our Year 9 dancers to set the evening off. It was a lovely evening and we hope all involved thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to all the winners!”
